There are some of our dreams that we dream of as kids .....and this one was one such dream.......In pursuit of it I had got first into Air Wing in my school. Dressing in Air Force uniform with the IAF insignia on your cap was my first small achievement.
My Sir as i used to call him....who was a squadron leader in IAF during the Indo Pak used to tell me that when you walk on a road no one would notice you....but when you walk on the road with this uniform on you can feel thousand eyes glaring at you. You cant imagine how it feels to march with that uniform in Shivaji park on republic day or independence day. You have to do it to feel it.
As a flight cadet we had lessons on basics of flying an aircraft, identifying planes just by its sound, 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines, drawing planes, to aircraft maintenance apart from the marching and ragging(its very bad). We had even been to several air force bases and one among them was in deolali in nashik. Here we saw all the planes first hand and sat in cockpit of Mig. We also had weapons training in naval bases in mumbai and they are some really good machines. We were also patrolling a town called junnar near pune when riots broke out there, before the police could arrive. I would say those years in made men out of boys and were some of the best days of my life....
I dream of sitting in the cockpit of a Sukhoi and flying at supersonic speeds and I can trade all that I have for it....
Cheers to IAF and the men who make it
